Relationship of Life
My artistic world began with a question about the essence of the relationship between the self and the world, and gradually expanded into an exploration of the relationship between the universe—the origin of all things—and humanity.
Such a relationship holds meaning only when the existence of “myself” is present within the universe, and furthermore, when the existence of “human beings” is present within it. However, I began to question: “Within the universe, do I and others truly exist in our complete form? Are we living together as whole and complete beings?” Through this awareness, I came to pursue the “inherent and complete relationship” that should exist between the universe and living beings, and in doing so, my consciousness expanded.
I then imagined each individual soul living within the universe restoring an authentic spiritual connection—what I call the “lifeline”—and becoming a “beautiful family of living beings.”
This work, The Relationship of Life, expresses my hope that an “eternal world of love and peace” may be realized through the spiritual encounter between the Creator of Heaven and Earth and all creation. In terms of technique, I used hanji (traditional Korean paper) to emphasize texture, and painted with acrylic.
‘자아와 세계와의 관계’의 본질에 대한 물음으로 시작된 나의 작품세계는 나아가 ‘만물의 근원인 우주와 인간’의 관계를 탐구하게 되었다.
이러한 관계는 우주안에 ‘나 자신’의 존재가 있어야 의미가 있고 더 나아가 우주안에 ‘인간’의 존재가 있어야 의미가 있다는 생각에 이르게 되었다. 하지만 나는 “우주 안에서 나 자신과 사람들은 온전한 모습으로 존재하며 살아있는가? 우주 안에서 우리들은 온전한 생명체로서 함께 살아있는가?” 라는 의식이 생기게 되었고 우주와 생명체들 간의 갖추어야할 ‘본연의 온전한 관계’를 추구하게 되면서 나의 의식을 확장하게 되었다.
그리고 나는 우주안에 살고 있는 각개의 영혼들이 온전한 영적인 관계 즉 ‘생명줄’을 회복하여 ‘아름다운 생명체 가족’이 되는 모습을 상상하게 되었다.
이번 작품 ‘생명의 관계’는 나의 소망인 ‘영원한 사랑과 평화의 세계’가 ‘천지창조주와 천지만물 간의 영적인 만남’을 통하여 이루어지는 모습을 표현하였다. 표현기법으로는 마티에르를 살리기 위하여 한지를 사용하였으며 아크릴 물감으로 칠하였다.
