Encounter: Self, World, Life
My work begins with a fundamental question: what does it mean to exist? From this inquiry, the concept of “encounter” emerged as a central theme.
Encounter is the origin of all relationships. Love, family, and human connections are formed through moments of encounter. At the same time, encounter is the point at which the self meets and connects with the world. In 1990, my work Family was selected for the Salon Grands et Jeunes d’Aujourd’hui in France. This piece also originated from the concept of encounter. In my work Heaven and Earth, I emphasize the relational moment of encounter between heaven and earth.
Working with traditional Korean mulberry paper (hanji) and canvas, I use ink, pigments, and mixed media to express the aesthetics of emptiness within the pictorial space.
나의 작업은 ‘존재란 무엇인가’라는 근본적인 질문에서 시작된다. 이 탐구 속에서 ‘만남’은 나의 핵심 주제로 자리 잡았다.
만남은 모든 관계의 출발점이다. 사랑과 가족, 그리고 인간관계는 모두 만남을 통해 형성된다. 동시에 만남은 자아가 세계와 연결되는 지점이기도 하다. 1990년, 나의 작품 「가족」은 프랑스 Salon Grands et Jeunes d’Aujourd’hui에 선정되었으며, 이 작품 또한 ‘만남’이라는 개념에서 출발하였다. 또한 「하늘과 땅」 작품에서는 천지(天地)가 만나는 ‘만남’의 관계를 강조하였다.
전통 한지와 캔버스를 기반으로, 먹과 안료, 다양한 재료를 사용하여 작품 공간에서 ‘여백의 미’를 살려 표현하고 있다.
